Permits in Eagle Mountain
Deck permits run through the Eagle Mountain City Building Department, part of the city’s Community Development office. A permit is generally required for any deck attached to the house or with a walking surface more than 30 inches above grade. We prepare the plans, submit the application, and schedule the inspections so you don’t have to chase any of it.

Do I need a permit to build a deck in Eagle Mountain?
Usually, yes. Eagle Mountain City requires a building permit for decks attached to the home or with a surface more than 30 inches above grade, reviewed under the 2021 IRC. Small, freestanding, low platforms may be exempt, but HOA approval is often still required. We confirm the requirements with the Eagle Mountain City Building Department and pull the permit for you.
How long does a deck build take?
Most Eagle Mountain decks take about 1–2 weeks of on-site construction once the city permit and any HOA architectural approval are in hand. The approval stage is usually the longest part, so we start that paperwork early.
What decking material works best out here?
Composite decking (Trex/TimberTech-style) is the most popular choice here because Eagle Mountain’s high-altitude sun at around 5,000 feet fades and dries wood quickly, and Cedar Valley wind drives dust and grit that composite shrugs off. Cedar and redwood are beautiful, budget-friendlier options if you don’t mind resealing every year or two — and we’re happy to walk you through the trade-offs.
